Advanced Apple iPad / iPhone Interest Group

For U3A members who consider they have good knowledge and skills in using the Apple iPad / iPhone who want to participate in a course based on online participation, interaction and learning. A monthly newsletter will keep participants up to date about the Apple iPad and iPhone, and evaluate some of the latest Apps. Members’ iPad/iPhone problems will be resolved and active participation in sending in problems and solutions for discussion, encouraged. There will be advanced tutorials on topics suggested by members; eg there may be an evaluation of various storage options and/or battery re-chargers, or backing up/updating and/or restoring your iPhone/iPad to a Mac or PC computer using iTunes. Participants will largely determine the direction that the Interest Group takes. To join, simply email me.

Android Smart Phones for Beginners

Android (NOT iPhone) smart phones have touch screens and are similar to Android tablets in the way they may be used.  Commonly, you will use them as a phone, and to: store contacts, do emails, read books, play games, take photos, driving navigation, play music and video clips.

Android Tablets for Beginners

Participants will probably have Samsung Android tablets. The aim is to help students learn how to set up and use some of the features of Android tablets and to develop self-confidence to go further. Techniques include browsing the internet for research and entertainment, taking photos, using email, downloading apps.

Apple iPad out of the Box for Beginners

‘A simple easy to grasp beginner’s course’ for those with a new iPad or a refresher for those who struggle to get their head around the iPad technology.

For U3A members who own an iPad and consider themselves not a Beginner, and who want to ‘get up to date’. This is a two term course. Check with Tutors for details of what this course covers. Details are also on our webpage.

A class for those who have a little more experience with their iPad but still have lots of questions on ‘How do I do.....? 

Apple iPhone

The Course is for U3A members who have recently been given or bought, or soon to buy an Apple iPhone, and for those who want to revise and update their iPhone knowledge and skills. Apple Pages - Word Processor on your iPad

Learn to use the word processor PAGES on your iPad. Create documents, letters, a diary, leaflets, a photo page, a table of sortable items such as a list of accounts and due dates. Also learn to use PHOTOGENE to edit photos for use in PAGES documents.

Computer Workshop

This is a forum for the more experienced user to interact and exchange information and advice on any form of software or hardware. We can share any favourite project or experience with the group and discuss where and how we can improve our general knowledge of computers and their operation.

Computer skills - Advanced

This course will aim to improve on the knowledge members already have. We will cover such things as: photo and file management; emailing; using the internet and staying safe on the internet. We will also discuss any other aspect of computer use that class members request. Participants will need to bring their own laptop.

Windows 10 and Office 2016 - Introduction (Group 1)

This course is for people who have had some experience with Windows and Office. Bring your own Windows laptop and preferably your own WiFi pocket modem. The aim is to help you become familiar with the Windows 10 desktop and Office menus. There may be a loaner laptop available.
